Clean Air Act Settlement – 9/15/21 Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A. is announcing the resolution of regulatory matters related to its Risk Management Program (RMP) under Section 112(r) of the Clean Air Act including a settlement with the U.S Department of Justice. The regulatory issues stem from incidents that occurred from 2013 to 2016. As part of the settlement, the company has agreed to implement improvements to the Risk Management Program at its Point Comfort, TX facility and pay $2.85 million in civil penalties. Vertical Integration From producing our own feedstocks to generating our own steam and electricity, we have the ability to control product quality from start to finish — all the way to your loading dock. Formosa provides additional delivery quality control by operating and maintaining our own rail fleet of new, large volume railcars. This gives our customers unparalleled assurance that the product they receive will consistently be the highest quality and ready to run. This helps them control their product quality, too. Global Distribution Formosa’s Marine Traffic department ships an average of 3.3 million short tons of liquid product annually to destinations around the world. This is typically shipped by an average of 490 barges and 120 ships per year. The deep water ships calling on the Formosa’s port in Point Comfort, TX typically can transport 36,000 short tons of product each. In-land barges typically transport 1500 short tons each. Rail Operations manages seven rail storage yards capable of holding 4200 railcars and ships polyethylene, polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride resins. Formosa owns over 7400 railcars in and leases an additional 1800 railcars. Formosa interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad at our Lolita rail yard. where we currently ship ~3,360 railcars each month.
