Calhoun High School graduate EmmaLeigh Beck becomes the first female student to sign a Formosa offer letter through the Process Technology Program before graduation.
PORT LAVACA, TEXAS (May 22, 2026) – Friday, May 22, 2026, is a date that Calhoun High School Process Technology student EmmaLeigh Beck will always remember. It is the day she graduated high school and the day she signed an offer letter to begin her career with Formosa Plastics Corporation, Texas.
EmmaLeigh qualified for the position with Formosa’s Training & Development Department after successfully completing the college-level Introduction to Process Technology 1302 and Introduction to Safety, Health, and Environment 1308 courses and passing a credit-by-exam through Victoria College.
The Calhoun High School Process Technology Program is a partnership between Calhoun County ISD, Formosa Plastics Corporation, Texas, and Victoria College that has provided training and instruction to Calhoun County students for more than 20 years. The course is not only taught by Formosa’s Training & Development instructors, but Formosa also covers related exam fees and provides entry-level hiring opportunities for eligible students like EmmaLeigh.
EmmaLeigh is not the first Calhoun High School student to sign a Formosa offer letter before graduation, but she is the first female student to do so. Once she successfully completes Formosa’s standard hiring protocols, she will begin onboarding and additional training to become a Process Operator, with a starting salary of approximately $70,000 and the potential to earn more than $100,000 after four years of employment.
“We are always searching for great employees to add to our winning team,” said Mike Rivet, Assistant Vice President & General Manager of Formosa Plastics Corporation, Texas. “Calhoun County Independent School District is a great partner, and we work together to identify outstanding talent so that we can extend job offers to the very best. EmmaLeigh Beck excelled in her courses and inspired us all. We are proud to welcome her into our Formosa family.”
Beck served as a Sandette on the Calhoun High School drill team for four years and understands the importance of working on a team. Her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather have worked in the chemical manufacturing industry. She is knowledgeable of the opportunities and support available to her to ensure her success.
“Partnerships are key to providing a wide range of opportunities for our students,” said Calhoun County ISD Superintendent Evan Cardwell. “Working with Formosa Plastics to extend offers to our top students and recognize their efforts with this program helps ensure we are setting them up for achievement after graduation.”
EmmaLeigh signed Formosa’s offer letter in front of her entire senior class at their annual Senior Breakfast, with her parents, Process Technology course instructors, and Formosa management standing beside her.
The Calhoun High School Senior Breakfast is an annual tradition that has been sponsored by Formosa for decades. Initially planned as an event for graduating seniors to share one last meal and a goodbye before graduation, this year’s event offered an opportunity for a young female operator trainee to say hello to a life full of opportunity and potential.
Formosa Plastics strives to support and empower women in the workplace. Formosa’s Point Comfort, Texas, site also is the first manufacturing site to achieve the Silver Level Mother-Friendly Worksite designation in the State of Texas.
Texas Health and Human Services provided the designation to Formosa after the company created a mother’s room for employees returning to work following maternity leave. The company proactively supports employees who choose to breastfeed their infants by providing time and space.
