Our Company
Our Operations - Baton Rouge, LA

Our Baton Rouge facility is ideally accessible to all major modes of transportation. Located in Baton Rouge near an interstate highway and major railroad, it operates one of the northern-most docking facilities on the Mississippi, allowing our products to be exported worldwide. The site produces its own feedstock materials, electricity and steam.

The PVC unit was debottlenecked in 2002, increasing production approximately 15% with very little capital investment. Additional investment is being added to the site through the expansion and upgrade of the facility's VCM production unit.

In 2007, the site achieved the safety milestone of one million man-hours without a lost-time injury. Click here to view a video of the recognition ceremony. The site achieved its two million man-hours milestone in 2009.

As an active member of the Environmental Leadership Program sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Baton Rouge site subscribes to the EPA waste management hierarchy as part of its environmental program's responsibilities. In 2008, the plant was awarded the Governor's Achievement Award for Pollution Prevention.

ENERGY STAR(r) logo By partnering with the U.S. EPA's ENERGY STAR® Program and participating in the ENERGY STAR Challenge, Formosa Plastics is fully committed to increasing the energy efficiency of its operations, which directly results in improved profitability, conservation of vital national resources and a positive impact on the environment.

In addition, the U.S. EPA has awarded Formosa's Baton Rouge site the prestigious ENERGY STAR Combined Heat and Power Award for the outstanding energy efficiency of the site's combined cycle power unit. With an operating efficiency of approximately 71 percent, the unit requires approximately 26 percent less fuel than typical stand-alone onsite steam and electric power generation.  Based on this comparison, the unit also reduces CO2 emissions by an estimated 143,300 tons per year -- equivalent to eliminating emissions from 23,800 cars or planting 29,600 acres of trees.

"It's efforts like these that demonstrate the lengths to which Formosa will go to protect the environment, reduce energy use and minimize manufacturing costs," says Mr. Jay Su, vice president of Formosa Plastics' Vinyl Division.
